The creator of Pokemon, Takeshi Shudo, passed away at 4:03 AM JST on October 29th at the age of 61.

“MSN Japan reports that Takeshi Shudō, former head writer of the Pokémon anime, collapsed at Nara railway station’s smoking area around 6:00am on Thursday, October 28th. Upon being discovered by a passerby, he was rushed to the hospital and is undergoing surgery. It was soon determined at the hospital’s emergency care center that Shudō had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage in his head. ” -bulbanews

Rest in peace, sir. You have given us all more than I think you ever realized

I’m not saying that Shudō’s passing isn’t devastating, because it is.

But calling him the creator of pokemon is glossing over the one who not only created pokemon, but founded Game Freak, Satoshi Tajiri 

Shudō however, was a big part in the existence of pokemon. As he was the writer of the Kanto, Johto and Orange Islands story arcs of the pokemon anime, and he penned the first three movies. So Shudō was a big part in the formative years of Satoshi (named after Tajiri, known in the american anime as Ash) and his adventures with us all.

We’ll miss you Shudō.
